An Injury and Illness plan covers treatment when your pet gets sick or hurt. For example, if your pet has an emergency vet visit after breaking their tooth, your Injury and Illness insurance plan can help cover the expenses.
 
On the other hand, a Wellness plan is an optional add-on to your policy. It covers routine and preventive care to help your pet stay healthy. Under a Wellness plan, services like annual checkups, vaccinations, heartworm prevention and dental cleaning are all covered. However, you’ll need to have an Injury and Illness plan before you can purchase an additional Wellness plan.
No. Wellness is only available as an add-on to your pet’s insurance policy.
Your Injury and Illness coverage has a waiting period that starts the day after you enroll and lasts up to 15 days.
 
There’s also a six-month waiting period before hip and knee injuries can be covered. However, you can waive the waiting period for knee injuries. To do this, you’ll need to have your pet examined by a vet within the first 30 days of your policy to determine that they don’t have any relevant pre-existing conditions.
 
There is no waiting period for your Wellness plan. You can buy it today and use it tomorrow.
